Mixed waste, or MW, contains both hazardous waste, as defined by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and radioactive waste, as defined by the Atomic Energy Act. Both US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency regulate the management, storage, and disposal of hazardous mixed waste. Mixed waste may also refer to commercial and municipal waste that contains waste materials of different properties. Such wastes may be a mix of glass, plastics, metals, and biodegradables.
