At ACTenviro, We Don’t Just Save the Planet While We’re on the Clock

Celebrating-Earth-Day-2017 Davenport Beach Cleanup Team When it comes to sustainability, we don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk. In last year’s Earth Day blog, we told you about:
  • our new Microwave Disinfection Unit (MDU), which is the first of its kind in California to offer a waste-to-energy option
  • our liquid waste derived fuels program, which allows cement kilns to dramatically reduce their dependence on coal as an energy source
  • and our new diesel-electric hybrid truck
In the past 12 months, we’ve doubled the size of our diesel-electric truck fleet and are now processing over five times as much monthly waste through our MDU. But our commitment to preserving the Earth for our children’s generation doesn’t end when we clock out. Case in point: over the first weekend of April, two separate groups of ACT employees and their loved ones engaged in volunteer clean-ups. IB Cleanup with Mark West On Saturday the 1st, ACT’s Franco Lopez and Jesse Vanderstaay brought their families along to help clean up the official surf city of Imperial Beach! This event was part of the I Love a Clean San Diego initiative. Among other colorful characters, the ACT crew met up with Imperial Beach City Councilmember Mark West (he’s the one in the gray shirt and sunglasses, not the cowboy outfit). Nothing beats teaching the next generation the value of volunteerism and being green. ACTenviro- IB Cleanup with Cowboy The next day, 10 members of our Bay Area family joined Save Our Shores in a cleanup of Davenport Main Beach, just north of Santa Cruz. Trash left behind by unlawful overnight campers compromises the beauty of this stunningly gorgeous cove. The morning’s cleanup yielded well over a dumpster’s worth of garbage and recyclables. What a setting! Thanks to all who joined, but especially Nicole Martinez, who organized the trip. ACTenviro - IB Cleanup And thanks to all of our employees who engage in countless volunteer activities across our geography throughout the year. Happy Earth Day – tell us in the comments what you’re doing to celebrate!
