Are You Ready for National Safety Month?

shutterstock_413717560Safety is no accident. It's a choice we need to make throughout our entire lives. Whether it's wearing the appropriate PPE for a job, completing a HASP prior to a job or ensuring our employees have the tools they need to complete a job safely, we're all empowered to make safe decisions for ourselves and those we care about. National Safety Month is an annual observance to educate organizations and communities and encourage safe behaviors around leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths. Each June, The National Safety Council (NSC) organizes National Safety Month around a different theme to spotlight the importance of living safely, both in and out of the workplace. This year, the NSC is helping to keep safety at the top of our minds by raising awareness of what it takes to stay Safe For Life! Each week in June, the NSC will be providing downloadable resources highlighting a different safety topic:
  • Week 1: Stand Ready To Respond
  • Week 2: Be Healthy
  • Week 3: Watch Out for Dangers
  • Week 4: Share Roads Safely
This June, ACT is proudly celebrating National Safety Month with the theme “I Stand Up for Safety.” By sharing our employees’ stories and providing them with resources, we are working together to keep each other Safe for Life. The National Safety Council acknowledges that commitment from top leadership is essential. But equally important is a culture in which safety is owned by all, making everyone is the organization a safety leader. ACT started this campaign by asking our employees “What Do You do to Stand Up for Safety?” Participants will send in a short video on what they do to stand up for safety so they and their fellow employees can stay Safe for Life. Those employees whose video submissions are selected our campaign will be able to choose a pair of Wiley X Glasses and will be featured on ACT’s website! (Bradley Cooper sported Wiley X glasses in American Sniper.) Stay tuned to see which of our employees are featured.... Our goal is to empower employees at all levels, from technicians to Branch Managers, to have the freedom and the confidence to approach fellow workers when they see a situation involving a safety concern on the job. The principles of Standing Up for Safety are simple:
  • Be willing to approach and address fellow workers when you see something that causes you concern
  • Be willing to receive help when fellow workers approach and address you
This is ACT’s commitment to safety, because our employees matter to us. We are 260 employees strong, we are dedicated to safety, and together we can affect powerful change. Join ACT and thousands of organizations across the country as we work to raise awareness of what it takes to stay Safe For Life. What are you doing for National Safety Month? – Krista Wood Harsono, Director of Compliance
