ACTenviro Update on EPA’s e-Manifest

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be going live with the Hazardous Waste Electronic Manifest System (e-Manifest) on June 30th, 2018. The purpose of e-Manifest, according to the EPA, is “to modernize the nation’s cradle-to-grave hazardous waste tracking while saving time, resources, and dollars for industry and states.” ACTenviro’s core values include safety and professionalism, and we are excited about this significant step forward.

From the Cradle…
The current method utilizes paper manifests to satisfy both EPA and DOT requirements. e-Manifest will eventually replace the paper manifests. However, at this time EPA has not established detailed compliance procedures. While the EPA continues developing e-Manifest’s capabilities, ACTenviro will provide paper manifests for generators and will use paper manifests during transportation. ACTenviro is actively monitoring the progress of the e-Manifest system. We will continue to move toward a truly electronic hazardous waste manifest as more information become available.

To the Grave…
The biggest change under the e-Manifest system will happen at Designated Facilities, including ACTtreatment. Instead of sending paper copies to generators and regulators, ACT Treatment will upload the manifest data directly to e-Manifest. This information will then be available to both generators and regulators.

Many of our questions remain unanswered, but we do know that there will be costs associated with this process. The specific fees are not yet established; as soon as that information is available, we will share it with you, our customers. We understand change can be hard, which is why we are being proactive in our outreach about this transition. Please contact your ACTenviro account manager if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Pasquale Paduano
